Celebrity Cruises doesn’t need an introduction, but if you’re not aware they are one of the top cruise lines in the nation. They came to Boost Labs with a hope to produce an environment to evaluate and manage their ship vacancies. I’m proud to say that it was what we produced for the GURU Dashboard’s 3D visualizations that convinced them to collaborate with us.

Since I was the sole designer behind the 3D visualization effort for the GURU Dashboard, naturally I was tasked with concentrating on the core visualization. We worked through sketches to narrow down the general look and functionality, which were well received. We kept the development team close and up to date as we explored ideas to ensure what we were proposing would be feasible. The crux, as expected, was how we would build the 3D visualization. We looked to designate a charting library. In the end we chose to go with Plotly.

Once we settled on the charting library, I was free to explore limitations and produce real world mockups. I hoped to introduce more detail to each room, but Plotly limited us to 2-dimensional representations of each floor. Still, we were able to produce the visuals you see here, and thankfully they were very well received.

The design phase couldn’t have gone smoother. The designs you see here are client approved, and we are currently well into the build phase. More to come soon…
